Established in 1788, the Red Lion is a historic inn set on the edge of the Derbyshire Peaks. Originally serving local residents and travellers passing through the countryside, the building retains many of its original features, including exposed beams and stonework, offering a lasting reflection of its character and heritage.

The story of Peak Edge is closely tied to owner Steve Perez, whose connection to the Red Lion began in childhood.  In 1966, his father restored the pub, and it was here that Steve first discovered his passion for hospitality, helping in the kitchen and serving generous, locally inspired dishes. Those early influences continue to shape the menus and daily specials enjoyed by guests today.

After eight successful years at the sites, Steve expanded the business, reacquiring both the Red Lion and the adjoining Peak Edge Hotel in 2017. Deeply connected to the property, he has led its careful evolution, preserving its rich history while sensitively enhancing the guest experience.

Since then, Peak Edge has grown thoughtfully, with the addition of a garden room and terrace, extensive renovation to the bar and restaurant and the transformation of the former Orangery into the Oak Room. As the hotel continues to develop, the timeless history of the Red Lion remains at its heart, guided by authenticity, heritage and genuine hospitality.
