Classic Car Getaway
Cruise the peaks in styleExplore the Peak District in a classic car
Enjoy the thrill of the open road in the Peak District with classic cars — rolling hills, rugged moorlands, winding country lanes and picture-perfect villages. There is no better way to explore the Peak District than from behind the wheel, whether you’re chasing panoramic views, quaint tearooms, or the kind of roads that make your heart race.
Experience some of the world’s most famous driving routes, including Snake Pass — one of the most iconic roads in the Peak District. Crossing the Pennines between Glossop and the Ladybower Reservoir at Ashopton, this route offers breathtaking views and truly exceptional scenery. The name “Snake Pass” perfectly reflects its winding nature, although it originally derives from the nearby Snake Inn, one of the few buildings along the route. Continue your journey through the peaks with a drive down Winnats Pass, a protected Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and one of the most dramatic roads in the area. Towering limestone cliffs rise on either side, creating views that are nothing short of spectacular. Formed thousands of years ago when melting glaciers caused a vast underground cave to collapse, it has become one of the most unforgettable drives in the Peak District — a route that showcases nature at its most awe-inspiring.
For another must-see, take a drive to Derwent Dam, built in 1916 and admired for its striking neo-Gothic architecture. Nearly all the water for the Derbyshire area is filtered here from the surrounding reservoirs, making it both beautiful and vital. If you plan to visit, please note that on Sundays throughout the year, the road beyond Fairholmes is closed to motor vehicles to ensure a more peaceful setting for walkers and cyclists. However, drivers with a Blue Badge can still access the valley during these times.
