The Rise of the Sober Sip

The Rise of the Sober Sip

As of January 2025, the UK’s drinks industry is experiencing a significant transformation driven by market dynamics and consumer preferences. More people are opting for no-alcohol (or low-alcohol) options in bars for a number of interconnected reasons.

Why the shift?

Health and Wellness Trends
Over recent years, people have taken a more conscious approach to their consumption habits. As part of a balanced lifestyle and reducing sugar and calorie intake, skipping alcohol is increasingly becoming the preferred option. There’s also been an increase in the awareness of health risks associated with alcohol, leading many to cut back. With more information on the effects of alcohol on mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression available, people are more equipped to make informed decisions regarding their health and wellbeing.

Inclusivity
Due to the increased demand for no-alcohol options, businesses are providing more appealing alcohol-free options to ensure all guests feel catered for. Whether the reasons for abstaining are due to religious, health or just personal preference, having options available will promote inclusivity to provide a positive experience for guests.

Mindful Drinking and Moderation Movements
A number of health campaigns such as ‘Sober October’ and ‘Dry January’ are becoming increasingly popular. Mindful drinking doesn’t necessarily mean going fully sober but drinking with more intention – reducing frequency or volume.

Changing Social Norms
Generational shifts particularly amongst the younger generations, such as Gen Z, drink significantly less than previous ones. This is often due to the prioritisation of authenticity, experiences and health awareness. This could be partly due to the reduction is stigma and less social pressure to drink alcohol.

What Casa Hotels Group offer

In a bold and forward-thinking move to meet the UK’s changing tastes, Casa Hotels Group is proud to announce the launch of Athletic Brewing Co. Run Wild non-alcoholic beer on draught and award-winning alcohol-free sparkling wine Bolle within its award winning Cocina Restaurant, Barça Bar and the Red Lion Restaurant.

“We’ve seen a real cultural shift, not just in Dry January, but year-round. Guests are asking for sophisticated, adult alternatives that align with wellness and lifestyle goals,” said Steve Perez, Owner, “Our new offerings let everyone raise a glass, whether they’re driving, working the next day, or simply choosing to drink less.”

Bolle Sparkling Blanc de Blanc and Sparkling Rose Wine – Exclusively distributed by Mismo Drinks this Estate bottled, Vegan friendly 0.5% ABV Rose and White Sparkling wine containing 15 calories per serve. This refreshing sparkling is perfect for every occasion.

Athletic Brewing Co. Run Wild – A multi-award-winning, 0.5% IPA. Casa and the sister venue Peak Edge (LINK) are the ONLY restaurants and bars in Derbyshire to serve Running Wild on draught. Perfect for corporates enjoying midweek business dinners or the designated driver enjoying a drink on our newly installed outdoor seating at Barça Bar.

Guests can enjoy the new non-alcoholic offerings throughout Casa Hotel and Peak Edge Hotel bars, restaurant, and events spaces including weddings and corporate functions proving that celebration and sophistication does not need a high ABV.
